Geography

Geography Intent Statement

At Waulud Primary School we believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Every child in our school should have the chance to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world around them and be able to consider their current and future role in it.

We seek to inspire in children a fascination about the world and its people which will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Teaching should equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. We aim to engage pupils and develop their understanding of how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time.

We encourage children to enjoy and love learning about geography by gaining knowledge and skills, not just through experiences in the classroom, but also with the use of fieldwork and educational visits. Our aim is for our children to become confident geographers by learning how to apply their geographical knowledge, understanding and skills in different contexts and have the opportunity to communicate their findings to a range of audiences.
