Learning Outside the Classroom Intent Statement

Roald Dahl once said, “The more risks you allow children to take, the better they learn to take care of themselves.” At Waulud Primary school, we envisage to present children with opportunities to engage in risk-assessed, but not risk free activities through the use of Learning Outside the Classroom, providing genuine learning experiences across our curriculum.

Learning Outside the Classroom offers an environment and activities that cultivate positive attitudes and relationships, which are central to the development of a young person’s health, well-being and social skills. Maximising and developing the facilities within the school grounds in addition to taking external visits. By embracing both learning within and outside the classroom, children are taught that learning is a continuous process as opposed to something that occurs solely with a pencil in hand, breaking down barriers to learning, and nurturing life-long learners with a love for the outdoors. At Waulud Primary School children will discover, play, experiment, share and succeed.

Tesco Stronger Starts Grant

This is the area that has been developed with the grant funding from ‘Tesco Stronger Starts’. The growing area is in our Reception Outside Zone, where the children have the opportunity to grow their own fruit and veg to eat at snack time.

The children will learn the process of how fruit and vegetables are grown as well as how compost is made and how to maintain healthy crops.
