Computing Intent statement

All pupils at Waulud Primary School have the right to have rich, deep learning experiences that balance all aspects of Computing. Our aim is to teach a curriculum that enables children to become effective users of technology; learners who will develop in confidence, independence and resilience and who are able to plan, design, create, program and evaluate information through the use of ICT. 

With technology playing such a significant role in society today, we believe computing is a skill children must be taught if they are to be able to participate effectively and safely in this digital world. We endeavour to hold a positive ethos surrounding ‘Digital Wellbeing’, whereby we teach the children how to stay safe online whilst using digital devices. It is important to promote the advantages of using technology, as well as address the potential risks. 

At Waulud Primary School, the core of computing is Computer Science, in which pupils are introduced to a wide range of technology to allow them to practice and improve the skills they learn. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use Information Technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. This ensures they become digitally literate so that they are able to express themselves and develop their ideas through information and computer technology; these transferrable skills and knowledge can be used to support the delivery of our wider curriculum.
